Four Months Old!

My baby is 4 months old today. It's so hard for me to believe that four months have already gone by. We have our four-month appointment with the pediatrician on Friday, and I'm hoping she can help us with Emma's cold that's now lasted a month. She's been coughing since yesterday too, and when we weighed her on the Wii Fit, she hadn't gained any weight in the last 10 days. I'm scared and sad about that all at the same time. I guess we'll find out on Friday what the doc says.

As for daycare, a little update: I talked with the primary caregiver that next morning, and she acted shocked and as if it was a big surprise that it wasn’t ok for Emma to go 4 hours without food. Initially she said “we have other breastfed babies who go 4 hours” but I told her Emma had only gone that long one time, and it was in the middle of the night. Then when I pointed out the time difference between that and prior feedings and asked if they had seen Emma’s hunger cues (which they probably don’t since they stick a pacifier in her all the time!), she said that she was feeding two other babies at the time. And then she admitted that one person was at lunch and there were only 2 people watching 12 babies?!?!?! I was horrified.

Joe went over mid-afternoon that next day for a surprise visit to see what was going on, and she was doing fine. I went over an hour earlier than I usually do today, and she was in a bouncy chair with no pacifier, and was fine -- very happy and entertaining herself. So I don't know if it really was a one-time issue with the staffing and everything is better now, or whether I just come when things are at their worst. In any case, we're waiting on a return call from the awesome daycare place to see when we'll be able to start there.

Some developmental updates:
* Emma is now tolerating between 5-7 minutes of tummy time, and pushing up a little bit on her elbows (but no mini-pushups yet).
* We've rolled over from tummy to back just once, but almost did it two more times.
* We've almost rolled over from back to tummy, she just gets stuck on her side.
* She is laughing more frequently (I have a great video to upload of this)
* She recognizes us from longer distances
* She can spend 20 minutes self-entertaining in the play yard and bouncer, as long as she knows we're nearby.
* If I put her in the crib when she's very drowsy or asleep, she will sleep in the crib for 1-2 hours alone (sleepy-time bear needs to be playing, however).
